Nick Wakeman is the founder of Studio Nicholson, a London based label strongly influenced by her past as a menswear designer. As the Pre Fall ‘17 collection began to take shape many of her references, such as Bowie, started to disappear. She felt like her youth and the subcultures she grew up with, her inspirations, were slipping away and she became incredibly nostalgic. The iconic pieces from the collection identify with moments from the 1990s, specifically the David Byrne inspired coat, Natasha Kinski’s stand collar blouses oversized gaberdines and slacks (Margiela at Balanciaga), David Bowie pleat front pants and Talking Heads' regular shirts. The collection has a narrative but each piece has it's own style and story.
